2010 Explorer of the Year was Max Waters
• Max has been a Young Leader for 18 months - working with three separate sections (Chapman Scouts, King Scouts, Warren Cubs). He has developed his leadership skills considerably, and as a result will easily move into a warranted position when the time comes.
• He has taken part in the Overland Hike for the last two years - and was in the team that came 3rd in the Explorer section this year.
• He was a member of the first-ever Tullis team to enter Class A of the Downsman Hike. The team did brilliantly in appalling conditions, only dropping out at 72 miles.
• Max always does his best to turn up and support Group and District events. • He has an excellent record of attendance at our weekly meeting nights,
and has attended most of the camps that have been run. • He is determined to achieve his Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award before he goes to
University, and is doing a great job in motivating his fellow Explorers to take part. |
2010 Runner up was Katy Wells
Katy joined us from the Guides in the winter of 2009, and within a few weeks of starting was training in earnest for the Overland Competition, despite being the only Explorer from our Unit who showed any interest in the competition that year. That did not stop her though, and she quickly picked up the skills required, becoming an extremely competent navigator in a very short space of time.
Since then, Katy has embraced a wide range of competitions and new experiences, all with enthusiasm and smiles, and has continually impressed us with her achievements, including walking 45 miles non-stop in the Downsman competition.
Katy supports the leadership team whenever possible at fundraising events and church services during the year. The award at the District Carol Service made a
great present on her birthday, 12th Dec 2010.
