![]() The was a presentation to parents on Tuesday 17th October 2006 at 8pm at Crowborough Scout Headquarters
Hopefully most of you will already be aware of the Martlets Camp in 2007. In case you don’t, the camp is being organised to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1st Scout Camp organised on Brownsea Island in 1907. The camp will take place from the 28thJuly to the 4th of August 2007 and is to be held at the Laughton Showground which is located between Ringmer and Golden Cross. There will be over 2000 members of the Scout Movement camping at the site and the dates are designed to coincide with the World Jamboree which is being held in Essex at the same time. We have decided, as 1stCrowborough Scout Group, that we want to attend the Martlets camp and all the Cubs and Scouts camp together as a group, with all the Beavers visiting on the 1stof August 2007. There is going to be loads to do during the week, including a visit to the World Jamboree and we feel that it will be a fantastic and exciting opportunity that we just wouldn’t want to miss. I am fairly certain that none of us will be available to attend the next 100thanniversary of Scouting, so we didn’t want to miss this one. It would be absolutely brilliant if we were able to get everyone in the group, either camping the whole week, or, if Beavers, attending on Wednesday the 1st of August. As the literature posted in the hall of the Scout HQ states, the Wednesday is the actual anniversary and all those in the Scout Movement throughout the World, will be renewing their promise that day. I think you’ll agree that this will be a day that will go down in history and will be something that all those involved in Scouting will remember for ever. The purpose of this letter is to let you know the dates, to let you know of our intentions and to give you the cost of the camp. You will get more detailed information from your section leaders nearer to the camp, i.e. health forms, kit lists, etc. The camp will cost - £180 for the week. This does include all activities and food, though not transport too from the site. The cost of the day visit for the Beavers is £10 and does not include food or transport to or from the site. If your youngster is currently a Beaver, but will be a Cub before the 16th April 2007, i.e. 8 years old, they will be eligible to camp all week. If your young person will be an Explorer Scout before the camp, they will be camping as well, so they will not miss out, but you will need to speak to your leader about the arrangements. The small print I am going to set up an instalment system to ease the blow, but we are asking for £10 non-refundable deposit to secure the places. All cheques will need to be made out to ‘1stCrowborough Scout Group’ please and clearly marked Martlets Camp and then given to your section leaders with the tear off slip, below. I need these deposit cheques before the 17th November 2006 please. The organisers have requested full payment by 26th February 2007! However, we realise the implications of this and have decided to set up a payment plan from 1st November 2006 to 1st April 2007,inclusive at £30 per month for 5 months and the last payment of £20. If you would like to provide post dated cheques to your leader, that will be OK. The payment method will be up to you, i.e. instalments or full balance; as long as we know your child is coming, that’s the main thing. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak with me or a Section leader and we’ll try and answer them. Yours in Scouting John Easton Group Scout Leader, 1st Crowborough Scout Group 01892 660092 or theeastons@gmail.com
