Please may I pass on the congratulations for your awards from 1st Crowborough.  John, the Silver Wolf which was introduced by Lord Baden Powell remains the Scout Associations highest award for service to Scouting.  The Silver Wolf is the unrestricted gift of the Chief Scout and is only awarded 'for service of an exceptional nature'.  It is not normally awarded until at least a Silver Acorn has been gained.  In practice, this means that it is seldom awarded for less than 30 years service, although this is not always the case, however, John, you have exceeded that by many years...well done and I am very proud and grateful to have you still actively (very) involved in 1st Crowborough, thank you.

Jim, the Bar to the Silver Acorn is another fantastic achievement, it can only be awarded after at least the Silver Acorn has been gained and a further five years of similarly distinguished service has been completed.  I know that 1st Crowborough has benefited from your leadership within the District as District Commissioner and I think that our interests will be upheld with your continued service to the District team.  Again, the award is a fantastic achievement, congratulations.

I feel that it is important to recognise the achievements of those that have given so much service to Scouting and in particular to 1st Crowborough.  Our group is going from strength to strength, increasing in numbers and popularity in the area.  We have the full backing of the Crowborough Town Council, especially with the support they have shown to us over our intended 2008 celebrations.

Congratulations once again to John and Jim, awards very well deserved.

Yours in Scouting
