To read more about the fantastic Gilwell site click here. As you know, this year, 2008, 1st Crowborough Scout Group is celebrating its 100th anniversary. To help celebrate this, we are organising a group summer camp from the 25th to the 27th July (with the Scouts continuing until the 2nd August). We have been very lucky, in that, we have secured a campsite at the HQ of the Scout Association at Gilwell Park, near Chingford, London. The campsite is right at the heart of the Scout Association, where the offices of the Chief Scout and the Information Centre are based and is the location used for National activity fun days every year. The centre has a real Scouting atmosphere and we are very fortunate to be able to camp there. In order that we involve absolutely everyone in this exciting opportunity, we intend for the Beavers to either visit for the day, or if they would like to, sleep overnight on the Saturday night, in indoor accommodation. The Cubs and the Scouts would go up on the Friday details below with the Cubs returning Sunday afternoon and the Scouts continuing with their Summer Camp at the same site, until the following Saturday 2nd August. Our basic plan, which will become more detailed with letters from individual section leaders, will be: Thursday 24th July 7pm Cubs and Scouts meet at the HQ to load lorry with camping equipment and personal kit. Friday 25th July, 2pm, Cubs and Scouts (having had a hot meal) meet at the Scout HQ for departure to Gilwell by coach (take packed tea). Saturday 8am Beavers meet at the Scout HQ for departure to Gilwell by coach. Saturday 8pm Day visiting Beavers leave Gilwell after Camp Fire, by coach. Sunday 9am Beavers, who have stayed overnight, will return by coach to the Scout HQ. Sunday 3pm, Cubs will leave Gilwell to travel by coach to the Scout HQ Saturday 2nd August 11am Scouts leave Gilwell by coach to return to Scout HQ. The cost for this will be:- Beavers (day visitors) - £20 Beavers (overnight) - £40 Cubs - £55 Scouts - £175 This includes all activities, food and accommodation plus transport to site and return. There will be a letter coming out very shortly to show a payment plan for those that would like one. This is, of course, the basic outline and there will be more details (i.e. parents that would like to camp etc) as we go through these next few months, however we do need to start booking activities and reserving coaches etc, so to assist in this we are asking for a non-refundable deposit as below to be returned to your young persons section leader by the 16th February 2008:- Beavers - £5 Cubs - £15 Scouts - £20 Please return the slip below to your section leader with your appropriate deposit before the 16th February. It would be great if everyone was able to take part it really does look like a fantastic camp ..and we may not see the next centenary camp! Yours in Scouting John Easton Group Scout Leader Name ..would like to go to the Group Summer Camp at Gilwell.
